Fall Out Boy @ Fenway Park, Boston | Concert Recap

Fall Out Boy played a stunning show at Boston’s iconic Fenway Park in August as part of their “So Much (for) Tour Dust” tour. The show featured openers Royal & The Serpent, Four Year Strong, and Bring Me the Horizon.

To say I was excited for this tour would be an understatement. Although I’ve been a loyal fan of Fall Out Boy since 2003, this was the first time I had the chance to see them perform live. Not wanting to miss out on a good spot in the pit, I arrived quite early to line up on the streets of Boston outside of Fenway Park the morning of the show. The overall vibe was pure excitement as fans waited decked out in an assortment of official and hand-made merch. Tons of people were even trading Fall Out Boy themed bracelets with each other.

Fall Out Boy did a great job of weaving songs from their new album, So Much (for) Stardust into a full set of their older songs. The show felt less like an album-centric show and more like an “Eras” (a la Taylor Swift) set. This is a good method for pleasing a wide variety of fans. However, I would like to have heard more from SMFSD.

The great thing about Fall Out Boy is that every song is full of energy and is a certifiable hit, which means there are no lulls for the entire set. That being said, some highlight moments included:

  • “Dead on Arrival”, which seemed to be an impromptu addition as it was not on the printed setlist.
  • The build-up guitar riff at the beginning of “Grand Theft Autumn / Where Is Your Boy”
  • Dropkick Murphys’ “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” transitioning into Bang the Doldrums
  • “w.a.m.s.” making it’s live debut
  • Patrick playing “Sweet Caroline” on piano
  • “Enter Sandman” Metallica cover
  • Pete Wentz on the Green Monster for “Dance, Dance”
  • “XO” played live for the first time since 2007
